Trowse History Society

Welcome to Trowse, a historic Norfolk village with a unique identity and sense of place. Explore and discover more about the rivers and wildlife, the people and their trades and the buildings they lived in. Why and when was it called a ‘model village’? So many fascinating questions and amusing stories, and all the more urgent to preserve before they are lost to future generations.

Founded in 2023, the Trowse History Society is committed to collecting, preserving and sharing information with the local community. With your support we aim to make available old photographs, diaries and written accounts on our website. Various exciting new information has recently come to light. Photographs of a national archery competition c1900 held in Trowse. A recent donation of stunning photographs reveals all.

Look out for the next illustrated talks on recent discoveries – including a rare map of the Crown Point Estate sale notice in 1872 (bought by Jeremiah Colman). Also in this year of the 250th anniversary of American Independence in 1776, the discovery of a portrait of John Money, British military hero and resident of Trowse, who named his estate after the famous Crown Point fort and battleground in upstate New York.
